There’s food, then there’s seafood. Oh my! Seafood always comes with a whole vibe to it. Is it me who only feels this way? I have explored almost all kinds of seafood there is. Because of my travel adventures. love traveling, and the beach be it in Madagascar or Seychelles offers the best. Ever since I tasted crab meat, it has been a meal I always look forward to having every once in a while. And I got a perfect recipe that combines all my favorite ingredients to prepare my crab dip meal. So savory I end up licking my fingers and craving for more.
I have been a foodie for as long as I can remember. In addition to being a foodie, I’m a story lover. Telling and listening to stories is a hobby I gravitate towards naturally. So before we start on the crab dip recipe, let me tell you a story.
Extraordinary Delicious Three-Ingredient Crab Dip
Before I start talking about food, I wanted to tell you a fun story. Some time ago, my husband was in hot water with me because of Cruella de Ville. It happened when my now 18-year-old son was still young enough to be in a car seat. Someone had just cut me off when I heard his sweet little voice say, “Stupid woman driver!”I was so shocked to hear that come from my son. It was out of nowhere.
I knew that was not anything I would say. So, the only person he could have learned that phrase from was, his dad. Of course, when I asked my husband about it, he denied ever saying anything like that. And I have to admit, it would have been oddly out of character.
It wasn’t until months later when our son was watching 101 Dalmations for the hundredth. And one time that I heard that phrase again. As Horace and Jasper are driving, Cruella cuts them off, forcing them off the road into the snow and one of them yells out the window, “Stupid woman driver!” My husband was off the hook.
Hooked to the Crab Dip
Speaking of off the hook, you are going to love this 3 Ingredient {5 Minute} Crab Dip. Hope you all enjoyed that shamelessly cheesy segue we’re sharing from our recipe books.
I first tasted it at a party and immediately asked for the recipe. The woman who brought it said lightly, it’s just imitation crab, mayonnaise, and seasoning.
That was all I could get out of her for a long time. I tried over and over to make it, using different spices, spice mixes, you name it. But it never tasted right. I figured there was some super-secret blend of hers she just didn’t want to tell me.
I finally got out of her that it was Mrs. Dash. I ran right out to get some! And was totally disappointed because it still didn’t taste at all right. When I told her mine didn’t taste right, she told me she had forgotten to tell me it was not just your run of the mill Mrs. Dash.
I finally got the secret and I am sharing it with you. Shhh!!! Don’t tell anyone. Extra Spicy. It has to be Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy blend. What a difference! When your friends ask you for the recipe, hold out for as long as you can. But in the end, if you have to tell, it’s okay with me. And her… I think.
Ingredients For Tasty Crab Recipe
Mrs. Dash’s ingredients are the ones mainly needed for this recipe. Though one is free to add other spices of their choice if they feel the meal is too fishy for their taste. It’s a fun and playful kind of recipe
For this meal what we need is:
- Mayonnaise – Don’t you just love the creamy feel and look of mayo! I certainly do and take it with most of my salads or dip recipes. For our crab dip, the mayo will work to add more flavor and creaminess to the meal. I am already salivating from the thought of it.
- Seasoning – For the seasoning, we will use a specific one from Mrs. Dash. It is famously known as the Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy Seasoning Blend. This is where all the secret lies. You can purchase the seasoning from amazon. It comes in a yellow package and can be used for more than one cooking.
- Crabmeat – For the crab meat, you can use either of the three types we usually have available in the store. Every single one of them will bring you the same delicious result at the end:
- Lump crab meat – This type usually comes from the body of the crab. It is mostly found in a can but some butchers have it too. It is mainly comprised of broken pieces of jumbo lump and a good grade of crab meat. You can get the two and mix them up with a fork. They are sturdy and what you need for your dip recipes, salads, casseroles, and crab cakes
- Imitation Crab – As the name suggests, this is not the real deal. It is an imitative version of crab. It is a processed food made of combining minced fish with starch, egg whites, sugar, salts, and additives.
- Fresh Crab Meat – This is sold in plastic containers over ice at the market. For them to retain their freshness, they are either steamed or boiled. They are the best to use for the crab dip if one wants that natural fresh fishy taste. Some bit of budget-stretching will be needed for this, however. Just a little more bucks but trust me, it is worth it.
For the imitation crab and the lump crab meat, you can find them in the seafood section of pretty much all of the big grocery stores.
Other Ingredients You Might Want To Add To Your Dip:
- Shredded cheese
- Lemon juice
- Cream cheese
- Sour cream
- Green onions
- Garlic
- Hot sauce
The ingredients are so common and easy to find, and you probably already have them available in your kitchen. The only thing you will need to get from the store is crab meat.
How to Make The Crab Dip?
Now that we have our needed ingredients, we can start cooking. I love this stage of meal preparation. It makes me always exhilarated and super hungry. Most times (if not all), I end up tasting a little more than enough from the pot.
My grandkids love my cooking and yours too will after this scrumptious recipe. We are all set for this dip to get an ooey-gooey taste.
The process entails simple steps that only take around 30 minutes. This means you’ll have your serving ready for devouring in no time!
What you simply need to do is:
- First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and as it heats, prepare your ingredients in a bowl.
- In the mixing bowl, add cream cheese and beat until smooth. Then proceed to add in mayo, sour cream, garlic, green onion, Mrs. Dash seasoning blend, salt, and lemon juice. As you add keep on stirring to make sure the ingredients mix perfectly.
- The third step is to stir in the mixture ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese and hot sauce. Then mix until smooth.
- Add crab meat and stir well until it combines with the other ingredients.
- Lastly, spread the final mixture into a pie dish or a baking pan and sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese and green onions on top. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the top is golden.
Our Meal is ready!
You can serve the meal warm with slices of bread, crackers, tortilla chips, or cold veggies. Also, the meal can be enjoyed whether cold or warm. For a cold crab dip, just prepare the dip as instructed but don’t bake it. Serve it cold.
Your parties and dinners will definitely take a turn for the best with this recipe. It’s the perfect appetizer or side dish for when holding parties, game days, or a family dinner.

Oh, my goodness, you make me excited to try this out, It must be very tasty, I do not know whether I can buy Mr. Dash here in BC, but I will definitely shop around to see if I can find it, but what about the crab meat? what brand you are using? Can you share the name and if possible the package so that I can go for it next time I cross the border and shopping around Bellifair Mall at Washington?? Thanks
Sherri says
Mrs. Dash Extra Spicy is available on Amazon. I used Trans Ocean Crab Classics, but any brand of imitation crab meat will do fine. You will find it in the seafood section of the grocery store. I hope you are able to find the ingredients, Edna. The taste is worth it!

I made this recipe for a dinner party recently and I have to say – the taste was great! I didn’t have enough time to order the Extra Spicy Mrs. Dash from Amazon, so I used regular Mrs. Dash and some tabasco (per one of the comments). It gave it a real kick… at first it tasted normal and yummy, then pow! The spiciness! It was a hit. My question for you is what kind of Trans Ocean Crab did you use? I used crab sticks and found myself slaving away to separate them into usable strings. I first bought some that came in chunks but those I quickly found weren’t gonna work for this dip. Let me know! Thanks for the recipe!
Sherri says
Hi Shelby! I am so glad you liked it. I use whatever imitation crab I find at the grocery store. It is usually in chunks and I use my clean hands to flake it. It usually breaks up fairly easily. I find Extra Spicy Mrs. Dash at the grocery pretty easily, so look for it in the spice aisle. Great to know about the Tabasco sub.

I found the extra spicy Mrs. Dash at Superstore here in Kelowna!

I’m 100% noob at all things cooking! do you have to cook imitation crab to eat it?
Sherri says
Nope! It is fully cooked and ready to go. That is part of what makes this recipe great, it is a snap to put together!
Amber says
I just made this and it is very easy! But I think I used a tad too much mayo. I’m going to let it sit a bit and try it on a cracker. If still too mayo-ey I have a little crab left I’ll just add to it. But very easy and cheap to make!
Sherri says
Hi Amber! So glad you like it. This definitely gets better after some time for all the flavors to marry. Mine seems mayo-ey to start with and them sort of thickens, so I think you will be pleased after leaving it in the fridge to set a bit. We love this dip. Glad you do too!
Jocelyn says
This is delicious, and goes together so quickly. I didn’t have the extra spicy Mrs. Dash, so I used the original Mrs. Dash and mixed in some Tabasco. Also, I substituted about 1 tablespoon of the mayo with Greek yogurt to ensure that the mayo flavor wouldn’t be too strong. Thanks for a terrific recipe!
Sherri says
I am so glad you liked it. If you liked it with regular Mrs. Dash, wait till you try extra spicy, Jocelyn! I am in love with Greek yogurt right now, that is a great idea. You are very welcome. We sure appreciate hearing from you.
Catherine says
Hi Sherri. I am dying to try this but I have a question. Does it have to be imitation crabmeat or can I use real crabmeat in a can? Then again, are all the cans imitation crab? Sorry if this is a silly question but I have never bought it before. Thanks for the recipe. Cathy
Sherri says
Hi Cathy! It really is suited best to imitation crab. I have never tried it with real crab. Not a silly question at all. I hope you enjoy this recipe. We love this for entertaining because it is always a hit and so quick and easy!

I found this recipe on accident and after reading it just had to rush into the kitchen and try. I prepared the crab meat and mixed all the ingredients. Only, to realize I had no crackers. So, time to improvise. So literally just turned around and glanced around my kitchen counter and there it was. I noticed the pack of Hawaiian Rolls. Sliced a couple and kind of made them into a pocket. Placed the Crab Mix in and took a bite. YES, perfect mix with the sweetness of the rolls, seasoning (I Used TONY CHACHERE’s Original), and the Crab Meat. Thank You for this recipe and this will definitely be a regular snack and appetizer when having people over or just bored, needing a quick snack.
Sherri says
I love Tony’s! Great idea. And the Hawaiian rolls. Yeah. I am doing that. Thanks for commenting and sharing your recipe tweaks. I am so happy this recipe has found a home in you house.

I love crab meat and this looks delicious! Do you think that you would be able to make this a warm crab dip and put in the oven?
Sherri says
No reason I can think. Warm for fall sounds great. Let me know how you like it!
Stephanie says
Apparently, I’m a little late to the party on this, but I just wanted to let you know this was great. I cannot stand spicy foods and was very hesitant to try this. But my love of seafood overtook me and I gave it a shot. My mouth is still burning from 4 Ritz crackers with this on them 5 minutes ago, but it was delicious. I actually had to make myself quit eating because I had just had dinner and was going to make myself sick. lol The mayo mellows out the spice. And it didn’t even take me 5 minutes to make this. Literally just dump it in a bowl, mix and eat. Love this!
Sherri says
So excited that you liked it! It is never to late for a kind comment:).
