Easy Shower Mold Solution

Post

Are you trying to ignore those nasty, moldy corners in the shower? Ignore no more. This is an Easy Shower Mold Solution that you will be quite pleased with!

This is THE solution for shower mold in impossible to reach places. I didn't even have to scrub!

Aren’t imaginary friends wonderful? I loved mine growing up. Her name was Candy Dish. Creative, right?

I have been told that I could describe her so vividly people thought she was real. I think they probably felt pretty foolish for believing a little girl really had a friend named Candy Dish. But, even after finding out she was a figment of my imagination, there were some who took pity on me and played along.

On my birthday, there were presents for me, and some for Candy (she had the same birthday as I did). Candy loved them and so did I (the presents and the people).

Miss Dish has not been around for a long while, but she showed up the other day to tell me about a problem she was having. She lives in an area that is very humid, and no matter how well she cleans her shower, she has a mold problem.

She uses her grout brush with gusto, but to no avail. So sad:( She had seen my post Super, Simple Shower and Tub Cleaner , and wondered if I might have an idea that would help her with the mold she had collecting in sneaky pockets of her shower. And she thought it was GROSS!)

Well, gratefully I had recently pinned a solution shared by Jessica at This Blessed Life and we decided to try it out. On her gross bathrooms. Not mine. Mine are not gross. Mine are pristine.

Nice of her, I think, to expose her mess like this. I have always been able to count on her. Check out her before and after with this Easy Shower Mold Solution:

This Easy Shower Mold Solution worked well with no elbow grease! No scrubbing! Just a trip to the beauty supply. That’s right, I said beauty supply. We picked up a bag of cotton beauty coil and a fine nozzle bottle.

I never thought I would find the perfect solution for shower mold in tough to reach places at the beauty supply store! No scrubbing method for a clean shower. MadeFromPinterest.net

Candy and I filled the bottle with straight bleach. Next we laid the cotton coil along the offending areas, and using the applicator tip of the bottle  to apply the bleach to the coil.

We pressed the cotton lightly to really get into sneaky, stubborn spots and left it for a few hours. We were pleased to find that the coil will cling to any surface, even vertically. We could just tear off the amount needed, press it to the wall, saturate it, press again and we were good to go.

My grout brush could never reach into the nooks and crannies of my shower. This method requires NO scrubbing and removes any mold trapped in impossible to reach places. MadeFromPinterest.net

When we came back an hour or so later and removed the coil, carefully placing it in a bag for safe disposal….voila! No more mold!

A few tips from Candy for this Easy Shower Mold Solution – She was very careful so that bleach did not get on her clothes. She is also kind of prissy and used latex gloves so her hands would not smell like bleach for days. She also ventilated the area while waiting. And labeled her bottle. She didn’t want anything weird happening to her hair.

So if your imaginary friend has a problem with mold in his or her shower or tub, you can let them know Miss Dish was really happy with this method.

I read your tip with some interest because I have never been successful in using only bleach to clean mold. I have always heard that bleach will not kill mold–only remove the color so that it LOOKS like it is gone but will return fairly quickly. So what I do is this: Since my shower is cleaned once a week, I use ammonia one week and then bleach the next (NEVER together as it emits a dangerous gas!). The ammonia actually kills the mold and the bleach removes the color. I never have mold anywhere now.

Ann, I live in a very humid area where fighting mold in bathrooms is a constant battle. Love the idea of rotating with ammonia. I have had less problems with mold since using the Super Simple Shower and Tub Cleaner. I think the vinegar works similarly to the ammonia. So easy to do while in the shower. Makes upkeep a breeze! Thanks so much for adding your experience to ours. We love the feeling of community we feel when we hear from followers like you. Awesome!

Peroxide, DOES kill mold. Bleach will not penetrate through to the initial cause BUT peroxide will, it actually oxidizes and kills and can penetrate . Good luck!

Bleach does NOT kill mold spores, it simply bleaches the hairs of the mold, making it look like the mold is gone. Get a reliable mold killer and do this to insure the mold is really gone.

As I noted earlier, bleach does indeed NOT kill mold. Ammonia will kill the mold so I alternate weekly cleaning the shower with bleach and then ammonia the next week–NEVER together as that emits a strong gas that is harmful. Ammonia is CHEAP so you don’t have to pay a lot of money to kill the mold. I haven’t had mold in my shower in years.

I don’t know if someone else commented this already, because there are so many comments. Too many to read. However, I think this is VERY important for you, and your readers to know. Bleach does NOT kill mold. Yes, it will bleach it, and you think it’s gone, but it’s not. The mold is still there, but bleached.

Please, look it up. Don’t fool yourself that you have helped get rid of your mold problem.

There is good news though, you CAN kill mold with vinegar. Vinegar won’t remove the stain of the mold, so you would still need to use bleach to get rid of the stain. Also, you can spray hydrogen peroxide on the mold, then vinegar, no rinsing, and after about 5 minutes, rinse them both away, and it will kill 99.9% of all bacteria, or something close to that. Google it if you are unsure. 🙂

Hi, Marlene. This works well for maintaining a clean looking shower. We have had various concerns and opinions about permanent mold removal. I am no expert there, and there is plenty of info out there for all to research and make a decision that is right for them. Thanks for taking the time to comment and make sure we are all well informed!

When my Mom was sick and living with us I cleaned like a mad woman constantly. I sprayed everything with Lysol, bleach/water combos, etc.. One of the hospice nurses told me that while many cleaners do kill 99.9% of all bacteria there is a reason they don’t kill .01%. The .01% bacteria they are referring to are spores and mold has spores. Mold must be scrubbed and then rinsed. Spores cling to surfaces and are likely to start back up if not scrubbed away.

I wish I could figure out how to get the hard water gunk out of the rubber gasket at the bottom of the door though. Any ideas? Short of removing the door!

I shared it with my husband and we couldn’t stop laughing!! How creative are you! I love good humor, creativity and laughing is my favorite thing! Well you just returned the favor! It made my day to read that you enjoyed my post. If we lived in the same town we would go to lunch, just the three of us. Candy doesn’t eat lunch, but she loves dessert! She is a light eater, so whatever she can’t handle, I’ll just finish off. She and I have had a lot of good times. You would like her. But now you may not want to be my friend anymore, seeing that I am in my 40’s and still have a close relationship with my childhood friend. 😐 That girl is making me fat. Her eyes are always bigger than her stomach when it comes to dessert! At least she has a clean looking shower!
