“Watch it wiggle, see it jiggle.” No I’m not talking about my thighs! They do jiggle, but I don’t want anyone to watch that. I hope you remember the Jello commercial that had this jingle in it! I’ve never seen white Jello before this pin. I thought at first it would be some mixture of Cool Whip and unflavored gelatin. I was surprised to find out that it is condensed milk and unflavored gelatin instead. I’m so glad for creative blogs like Babble for coming up with a fun recipe like this!I made one batch of this recipe to make the stars you see below. For the larger stars I used a silicon star shaped mold. The smaller stars came from the jello being poured into a glass 8 x 11 pan and then cutting the stars out with a metal star shaped cookie cutter. I thought the silicone mold worked much better than using the cookie cutter method. The silicone mold is easier to use and produces nicer stars. However, the mold only makes 6 stars at a time and one recipe can make about 18 stars. If you want to use the silicone molds for one batch of this recipe, you will need 3 silicone molds, which would yield about 18 stars. Are you still with me? I only had one silicone mold so I used the glass pan for the rest of the stars. Clear as mud right? Moving on….These are very easy to make. They just take a little time. The main thing you need to be aware of is timing. I made the blue layer first and put it in the fridge to set. I then made the condensed milk layer next. You have to let it cool before CAREFULLY pouring it over the blue layer or the white layer will mix in with the blue layer. This is where it gets tricky.
If you wait too long, the blue layer will set so fast that when you pour the white layer over the blue layer they won’t stick to each other. I waited too long and when I took the stars out of the silicone mold, the red and white layer stuck together (lesson learned). But the blue and white layer slipped apart as soon as they came out of the mold. I had to re-stack each star for the pictures. Here is how I avoided this happening with the red and white layer. I poured a tablespoon of the red layer over the white layer as a test. Nailed it this time!I have to admit that even the hubster was impressed with how these turned out. My teenagers loved how they looked. Another great thing about these stars is that they hold up at room temperature really well. You don’t have to worry about them melting or losing their shape. Last but not least, how do they taste? Jello and condensed milk are quite the combo. I luvr them, the kids luvr’d them, which means…….
This Pin Rocks!
